A New Attraction from Gerstlauer Amusement Rides

Looking to create an attraction that combined interactivity and thrills, Gerstlauer Amusement Rides designed its latest innovation- the Sky Roller.  The brainchild of company founder Hubert Gerstlauer, the ride is designed to allow guests to control their own flight.  Riders board seats with individually-controlled wings and an over the shoulder restraint.

After guests are strapped in, the tower elevates to over 22 meters (72 feet) tall and extends the arms, which hold two people each.  The structure and flight arms are raised through a series of hydraulic motors.  Once airborne, riders are free to barrel roll through the sky as they master the art of controlling the wings in the wind.  Each wing has a handle on it and passengers learn to have the airflow push the vehicle over the top.

“We see this as a unique way to give the kids of today what they want on amusement rides,” said Siegfried Gerstlauer, the company’s Managing Director.  “The Sky Roller offers them control over the experience.  They can spend the entire ride looping upside down or merely swing side-to-side high above the ground, whatever they feel like.”

The Sky Roller recently debuted at Munich’s famous Deutsches Museum (www.deutsches-museum.de).  Riders of all ages can follow in Otto Lilienthal’s footsteps and make history as they fly. See the ride in action at www.gerstlauer-rides.de or www.youtube.com/watch?v=mJbs7z0FIck.
