Swings Soar Around the Globe

S&S Power’s Screamin’ Swings have appeared in some of the world’s best amusement parks. In 2007 the 32-seater appeared in two unique places, Silver Dollar City in Branson, Missouri and Liseberg in Gothenburg, Sweden. In addition, the first 100-foot, 4-seat model is getting ready to swing into action at Mount Olympus Water & Theme Park in the Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin.

Liseberg chose the Screamin’ Swing because of its small footprint. The park needed an attraction that fit in the small space next to the famous Lisebergbanan roller coaster. Despite holding 32 guests the Screamin’ Swing only carved up a small piece of the hillside and was a perfect fit. The ride now has a commanding presence above the park and guests scream with delight as they swing out over the midway far below.

Silver Dollar City’s installation is quite different from the Swedish ride. In Missouri the park decided to theme the attraction around an old barn swing. Silver Dollar City’s design team erected a large barn that served as both a theming focal point and queue house. The new ride flies through the barn structure and over the park’s whitewater rapids attraction. Silver Dollar City General Manager Brad Thomas said, “You can put a ride anywhere, but the real key is giving it its own personality, which brings about an emotional connection.”

The first 4-seat, 100-foot swing will be running soon at Mount Olympus in the Wisconsin Dells. This ride is more extreme than the traditional Screamin’ Swing and will be run as an upcharge attraction. With speeds reaching over 75 mph this is sure to be one attraction that brings a new level of thrill to the Screamin’ Swing family. Ironically, this S&S first stands across the street from where the Space Shot debuted in the United States over a decade ago. The Dells has proven to be the place where our exciting rides start before they conquer the world.
